Nazem Al Jaafari (ناظم الجعفري, also spelled Nazim Al Jaafari or Nazem Al-Jaafari) was a pioneering Syrian painter born in Damascus in 1918 and active until his passing in 2015. Widely regarded as one of the founders of modern Syrian art, Al Jaafari’s work is celebrated for its expressive use of color and light, often depicting scenes from daily life in Damascus, landscapes, and portraits. He primarily worked in oil on canvas, developing a distinctive style that blended impressionist influences with a deep engagement with Syrian cultural heritage.
