Nadim Kufi

Iraq

Nadim Kufi is an Iraqi-born multidisciplinary artist, recognized for his conceptual approach that spans photography, installation, printmaking, and video. Born in Baghdad in 1962, Kufi’s work often explores themes of memory, exile, and identity, reflecting his personal experiences as part of the Iraqi diaspora. His artistic practice is marked by a minimalist aesthetic and a focus on the interplay between personal and collective histories, frequently utilizing archival materials and found objects to evoke a sense of displacement and longing.

Kufi’s work has been exhibited in prominent institutions and international biennials, including the British Museum in London and the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris. He has also participated in exhibitions at the Sharjah Art Museum and the Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha, underscoring his significance within the contemporary Arab art scene. In addition to institutional recognition, Kufi’s pieces have appeared at major auction houses such as Christie’s, where his works have attracted attention from collectors interested in Middle Eastern contemporary art. Nadim Kufi continues to live and work between the Netherlands and the Middle East, maintaining an active presence in both regional and international art circles.
