Lebanon

Mouna Bassili Sehnaoui (منى بسِّيلي صحنوي), born in 1945 in Alexandria, Egypt to Lebanese parents, is a prominent Lebanese visual artist and designer recognized for her vibrant paintings, graphic design, and public art projects. Sehnaoui’s work is characterized by a distinctive use of color and stylized forms, often drawing inspiration from Lebanese history, Byzantine iconography, and Middle Eastern motifs. Her practice spans painting, illustration, and large-scale murals, reflecting both personal and collective narratives from Lebanon and the wider region.

Sehnaoui has exhibited extensively in Lebanon and internationally, with solo and group exhibitions at major institutions such as the Sursock Museum in Beirut and the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris. Her works have also been featured in significant auction sales, including at Christie’s Dubai, where her paintings have attracted attention from collectors of modern and contemporary Middle Eastern art. In addition to her fine art practice, Sehnaoui is known for her contributions to graphic design, having designed iconic posters and stamps for Lebanese cultural events and organizations.
