Ali Al Kafri

Syria, b. 1948–2022

Ali Al-Kafri (1948–2022) was a Palestinian visual artist born in Lubya, Tiberias District. Following the 1948 Nakba, his family relocated to Damascus, Syria, where he pursued his education, culminating in a degree from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cairo in 1973. Al-Kafri's artistic journey spanned over five decades, during which he explored various styles, including realism, surrealism, abstraction, and classicism. His work is renowned for its deep connection to Palestinian heritage, often incorporating elements of Arabic calligraphy and oriental motifs.

Throughout his career, Al-Kafri held 32 solo exhibitions and participated in numerous group shows across the Middle East and Europe, including in Germany, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, France, the former Soviet Union, Iraq, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Yemen, the United Arab Emirates, Bulgaria, Iran, and Syria. His works are part of esteemed collections such as the National Museum of Damascus, the National Museum of Riyadh, the National Museum of Iran, and the Royal Palace in Riyadh. Additionally, his art is held in private collections worldwide, spanning countries like Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Morocco, Qatar, Algeria, Bulgaria, Germany, Canada, Argentina, Greece, Turkey, the Netherlands, and China.

Al-Kafri was an active member of the Union of Arab and Syrian Plastic Artists and the Palestinian Writers and Journalists Union. He also contributed to television, journalism, and artistic production for various newspapers. His dedication to preserving and promoting Palestinian heritage through art has left a lasting impact on the regional art scene.
