Zouhair Hassib

Syria

Zouhair Hassib (زهير حسيب) is a contemporary Syrian artist, born in 1960 in Qamishli, Syria. Renowned for his evocative figurative paintings, Hassib primarily works with oil on canvas, often depicting serene female figures that reflect themes of resilience, heritage, and the human condition. His style is characterized by a harmonious blend of traditional Middle Eastern motifs and modernist sensibilities, with a distinctive use of color and texture that imbues his subjects with a sense of quiet dignity and introspection.

Hassib’s works have been exhibited in prominent institutions and galleries across the Middle East and internationally, including solo and group exhibitions at the Damascus Opera House and the National Museum in Aleppo. His paintings have also been featured in exhibitions in Beirut, Dubai, and Europe, contributing to his reputation as a significant figure in contemporary Syrian art. In addition to institutional recognition, Hassib’s works have appeared at reputable auction houses such as Christie’s, where his paintings have attracted collectors interested in modern Arab art.

Throughout his career, Zouhair Hassib has remained deeply connected to his Syrian roots, often drawing inspiration from the cultural and social narratives of his homeland. Despite the challenges faced by Syrian artists in recent years, Hassib continues to produce work that resonates with audiences both regionally and internationally, solidifying his place within the broader landscape of Middle Eastern contemporary art.
