Zaman Jasim

Saudi Arabia

Zaman Jassim, born in 1971 in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia, is a contemporary multidisciplinary artist renowned for integrating traditional motifs with modern expressions. His work spans various mediums, including painting and installation art, often incorporating calligraphy, poetic language, and mixed media to delve into themes of memory, spiritual reflection, and cultural identity. Jassim's visual language is characterized by a sensitivity to rhythm and symbolism, drawing inspiration from metaphysical and lyrical sources.

Educated at the Institute of Art Education in Riyadh, where he earned his diploma in 1989, Jassim has been active in the art scene for over three decades. He has held numerous solo exhibitions, notably in Paris (2004, 2007), Dubai (2010, 2012), and Riyadh (2013). His work has also been showcased internationally, including at the Museum of Modern Art in Shanghai in 2010. Jassim's contributions have been recognized with several awards, such as the first prize in the third Al-Safir Fine Arts Competition in Riyadh (2009) and the Kharafi International Biennale of Contemporary Arab Art in Kuwait (2011).

In 2020, one of Jassim's paintings gained significant attention when it was prominently displayed in the office of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during a cabinet session. This event underscored the cultural resonance of his work within the region. Through his process-oriented approach, Jassim weaves emotion, time, and heritage into intimate narratives that speak to both personal and collective memory, contributing significantly to the evolution of contemporary Saudi art.
