Syria

Talal Al-Abdalla is a Syrian artist recognized for his significant contributions to contemporary Arab art, particularly through his expressive paintings and mixed-media works. Born in 1959 in Hasaka, Syria, Al-Abdalla’s artistic practice is marked by a deep engagement with themes of memory, displacement, and the human condition, often reflecting the complexities of Syrian identity and experience. His visual language is characterized by bold colors, gestural brushwork, and a synthesis of abstraction and figuration, drawing inspiration from both local heritage and broader modernist traditions.

Al-Abdalla’s works have been exhibited in prominent institutions and galleries across the Middle East and internationally. Notably, he has participated in exhibitions at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris and the Barjeel Art Foundation in Sharjah, which have showcased his role within the broader narrative of Arab modernism. His paintings have also appeared in major auction houses, including Christie’s Dubai, where his works have attracted attention from collectors and contributed to the growing recognition of Syrian contemporary art on the global stage. Through his evocative compositions and commitment to cultural dialogue, Talal Al-Abdalla remains a vital figure in the landscape of Middle Eastern art.
