Iraq, b. 1964

Taha Waheeb, born in Baghdad in 1964, is a prominent Iraqi sculptor known for his evocative bronze works that blend contemporary techniques with Mesopotamian artistic traditions. A graduate of the College of Fine Arts in 1988, specializing in sculpture, Waheeb has developed a distinctive style characterized by elongated human forms and textured surfaces, often exploring themes of humanity and heritage.

Throughout his career, Waheeb has participated in numerous exhibitions both within Iraq and internationally. Notably, in 2014, he showcased his work in the "Land of the Two Rivers" exhibition in Paris, alongside fellow Iraqi artists, highlighting the resilience and creativity of Iraqi art amidst challenging circumstances. His contributions to the art scene have been recognized with several awards, including the Creativity Award at the Babylon International Festival and the Encouragement Creativity Award. In 2021, he received the Functional Creativity Award during the annual Job Day Festival in Baghdad, underscoring his significant impact on Iraqi art and culture.

Waheeb's public sculptures adorn various Iraqi cities, with notable works such as the statues of Abdul Karim Qasim and Abdul Mohsen Al-Saadoun in Baghdad, and the "Martyrs of Kurdistan" monument. His dedication to preserving and revitalizing Iraq's artistic heritage is evident in his efforts to restore stolen artworks to the Museum of Modern Art, earning him the Loyalty to the Homeland Medal in 2010. As of 2025, Waheeb continues to create and exhibit, contributing to the rich tapestry of Iraqi art.
