Suzan Bushnaq

Kuwait

Suzan Bushnaq is a contemporary Kuwaiti artist recognized for her evocative paintings that often explore themes of femininity, identity, and the human figure. Born in Kuwait in 1963, Bushnaq is the daughter of Palestinian artist Mohammed Bushnaq, and her artistic lineage is reflected in her expressive use of color and form. She primarily works in oil on canvas, creating compositions that blend elements of realism and abstraction, with a particular focus on the female form as a symbol of strength and resilience.

Bushnaq has exhibited her work widely in the Gulf region and internationally. Her paintings have been featured in prominent group and solo exhibitions, including shows at the Contemporary Art Platform (CAP) Kuwait and the Sultan Gallery, both respected institutions in the Kuwaiti art scene. Her works have also appeared in regional art fairs and biennials, contributing to her reputation as a significant figure in contemporary Middle Eastern art. In addition to her exhibition history, Suzan Bushnaq’s paintings have been offered at major auction houses such as Christie’s, where her pieces have attracted attention from collectors interested in modern and contemporary Arab art. Her contributions continue to shape the evolving narrative of Kuwaiti and Arab art on the global stage.
