Shaiban Ahmad

Iraq, b. 1964

Shaiban Ahmad, born in Baghdad in 1964, is an Iraqi artist known for his evolution from impressionist techniques to expressionist-cubist styles. His recent works emphasize precise lines and minimal color palettes to narrate tales of lost paradises.

Ahmad's artistic journey began early; at nine, he held his first solo exhibition in Yemen in 1973. He later earned a Diploma in Fine Arts from the Baghdad Institute of Fine Arts, studying under artist Salman Abbas. His accolades include the UNESCO Award in 1987 and an Appreciation Award from the Baghdad Art Center in 1995.

Throughout his career, Ahmad has showcased his work in numerous exhibitions across Iraq, Jordan, and France. Notable solo exhibitions include "Smoke of Freedom" in Amman (2003), "The Scream" at Dar Al-Mashriq (2011), "Beyond Paradise" at Dar Al-Anda (2014), and "The Last Whistle" at Al-Orfali Hall (2019). In addition to his exhibitions, he was commissioned by the Municipality of Baghdad to create a public fountain.
