Sayed Abd ElRasoul

Egypt, b. 1917–1995

Sayed Abdel Rasoul (1917–1995) was a pioneering Egyptian artist renowned for his contributions to painting, sculpture, and ceramics. His work is distinguished by a unique synthesis of ancient Egyptian, Arab Islamic, and Egyptian folk motifs, creating contemporary pieces that resonate with cultural heritage. Abdel Rasoul's meticulous attention to detail and masterful use of color and composition have left a lasting impact on the Egyptian art scene.

Throughout his career, Abdel Rasoul participated in numerous exhibitions both locally and internationally. He showcased his work in countries such as Italy, Russia, China, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, Lebanon, Germany, France, and the United States. Notably, he was the first Egyptian artist to receive the State Encouragement Award in 1958 and was honored with the Order of Science and Arts by President Gamal Abdel Nasser the same year. His painting "Al-Sabahiyya" earned him the State Encouragement Award, highlighting his ability to blend traditional themes with modern artistic expression.

In 2017, to commemorate the centenary of his birth, a retrospective exhibition was held at the "Ofoq" Gallery in the Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil Museum in Cairo. This exhibition celebrated his extensive body of work and his enduring influence on Egyptian art. Abdel Rasoul's legacy continues to inspire artists who seek to bridge historical motifs with contemporary artistic practices.
