Syria

Saleh Al-Hajer, born in 1979 in Al-Mayadin, Deir ez-Zor, Syria, is a distinguished calligrapher and visual artist renowned for his innovative approach to Arabic calligraphy. His work seamlessly blends traditional techniques with contemporary digital art, creating pieces that are both culturally resonant and modern. Al-Hajer's art often reflects on the destruction of Syria's historical sites, aiming to preserve and highlight the nation's rich heritage through his calligraphic expressions.

Throughout his career, Al-Hajer has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Notably, his panoramic piece titled "The Face of History Burns," which addresses the devastation of Syrian archaeological sites, was showcased at the "Syria Against Oblivion" exhibition at the Museum of World Cultures in Cologne, Germany, in May 2022. This exhibition featured original artifacts from various Syrian archaeological sites and highlighted aspects of Syria's ancient civilization. Additionally, Al-Hajer has exhibited his work at the Sharjah Calligraphy Biennial in the United Arab Emirates, where he received the honorary award in the sixth session in 2014.

In the art market, Al-Hajer achieved a significant milestone when his painting "For Humanity" was sold through Art Reflect NFT for approximately $2.45 million. The proceeds were dedicated to purchasing an expensive medication for a Syrian child suffering from spinal muscular atrophy. This act underscores his commitment to humanitarian causes through his art. Currently residing in Tripoli, Lebanon, Al-Hajer continues to create art that bridges the gap between traditional Arabic calligraphy and contemporary artistic expression.
