About the work

A crowned woman sits with quiet dignity, her golden-toned figure rendered in rich earthy textures as she holds a single dark flower. The geometric, patchwork background of deep reds and browns lends the composition a warm, timeless expressiveness.

Saleh AlMalhi

Jordan, b. 1943–2013

Saleh AlMalhi (1943–2013) was a prominent Jordanian artist recognized for his significant contributions to the development of modern art in Jordan. Working primarily in painting, AlMalhi’s oeuvre is characterized by expressive brushwork and a vibrant palette, often reflecting themes rooted in Jordanian heritage and daily life. His style evolved over the decades, blending elements of abstraction with figurative motifs, and he became known for his ability to capture the spirit of his homeland through both color and form.

Throughout his career, AlMalhi participated in numerous exhibitions at leading Jordanian institutions, including the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, where his works were featured in both solo and group shows. His art has also been included in regional exhibitions, helping to establish his reputation beyond Jordan’s borders. AlMalhi’s paintings have appeared at major auction houses such as Christie’s, where they have attracted the attention of collectors interested in modern Middle Eastern art. His legacy endures in the Jordanian art scene, where he is remembered as a pioneering figure who helped shape the country’s artistic identity during the latter half of the twentieth century.
