Ruba Abu Shoosheh

Jordan, b. 1986

Ruba Abu Shousheh, born in Amman, Jordan, in 1986, is a visual artist and designer specializing in traditional and contemporary art forms. She earned her Master's degree in Islamic Art from the Islamic Art and Architecture Institute at the World Islamic Science University in 2013. Her work often explores the spiritual connection between earth and sky, employing horizontal and vertical extensions that incorporate hidden letterforms to symbolize the link between the terrestrial and the celestial. This approach reflects her philosophical perspective, emphasizing the interplay between material and spiritual realms.

Abu Shousheh has showcased her art in numerous exhibitions both locally and internationally. Notable solo exhibitions include "Glowing Horizon" at Jacaranda Images in Amman in 2018 and "In the Secrets of the Horizon" at Orient Gallery in 2020. She has also participated in group exhibitions such as "The Concept" at Orient Gallery in 2022, which featured works by five Jordanian female artists. Her participation in international events includes the Festival of Arabic Calligraphy in Algiers in 2007 and the Arts FST Settat in Morocco. In 2012, she received an award for her painting titled "Sky of Amman," highlighting her recognition in the art community.

In addition to her artistic practice, Abu Shousheh has contributed to significant design projects, including leading the design for the Karbala International Airport project in Iraq in 2013. Her work continues to be celebrated for its unique blend of traditional Islamic art elements with contemporary interpretations, offering viewers a contemplative experience that bridges historical motifs with modern aesthetics.
