Robert Longo, born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1953, is an American artist renowned for his large-scale, hyperrealistic charcoal drawings that explore themes of power, authority, and social unrest. He gained prominence in the early 1980s with his "Men in the Cities" series, depicting sharply dressed figures in dynamic, contorted poses. Longo's work spans various media, including drawing, photography, painting, sculpture, performance, and film, reflecting his engagement with contemporary culture and politics.

Longo has exhibited extensively in prestigious institutions worldwide. His solo exhibitions include "The Acceleration of History" at the Milwaukee Art Museum (2024–2025) and a retrospective at the Albertina Museum in Vienna (2024), which traveled to the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark (2025). His works are held in major public collections, such as the Albertina in Vienna, the Art Institute of Chicago, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Tate Gallery in London, and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
