Rob Scholte

Neatherlands

Rob Scholte (born 1958, Amsterdam, Netherlands) is a prominent Dutch contemporary artist known for his conceptual approach and appropriation art. Scholte’s work spans painting, installation, and mixed media, often reinterpreting iconic images from art history, advertising, and popular culture. His practice is characterized by a critical engagement with originality, authorship, and the circulation of images, positioning him as a provocative figure within the European postmodern art scene.

Scholte has exhibited widely in major institutions, including solo presentations at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam. His participation in international exhibitions such as Documenta IX (1992) in Kassel and the Venice Biennale (1990) further cemented his reputation. His works are held in the collections of leading Dutch museums and have been featured in significant group shows across Europe.

At auction, Rob Scholte’s pieces have appeared at major houses such as Christie’s and Sotheby’s, with notable results for his large-scale paintings and installations. His reinterpretations of familiar motifs have attracted collectors interested in conceptual and postmodern art, contributing to his standing in the secondary market. Scholte continues to live and work in the Netherlands, maintaining an active presence in both institutional and commercial art spheres.
