Sudan

Rashid Diab (رشيد دياب), born in 1957 in Wad Medani, Sudan, is a prominent contemporary Sudanese artist known for his vibrant paintings that blend African, Arab, and Western artistic traditions. Diab’s work often explores themes of identity, memory, and cultural heritage, utilizing a rich palette and expressive abstraction. He primarily works in painting and mixed media, drawing inspiration from Sudan’s diverse landscapes and cultural motifs. Diab studied at the University of Khartoum before pursuing further education at the Complutense University of Madrid, where he earned his doctorate in fine arts.

Diab has exhibited extensively in major institutions, including solo and group shows at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris and the National Museum of African Art in Washington, D.C. His works have also been featured in exhibitions at the Sharjah Art Museum and the Cairo Opera House. In addition to his artistic practice, Diab is the founder of the Rashid Diab Arts Centre in Khartoum, which serves as a hub for artistic exchange and education in Sudan.

At auction, Rashid Diab’s paintings have appeared at reputable houses such as Christie’s and Bonhams, reflecting growing international recognition. His works have achieved notable results, particularly in sales focused on modern and contemporary Middle Eastern and African art, underscoring his significance in the regional and global art market.
