Qais Al Sindi

Iraq, b. 1967

Qais Al Sindi (قيس السندي), born in 1967 in Baghdad, Iraq, is a contemporary artist recognized for his evocative mixed-media works that often explore themes of memory, displacement, and cultural identity. Al Sindi’s practice encompasses painting, drawing, and installation, frequently incorporating calligraphic elements and found materials to evoke the layered histories of his homeland. His visual language is marked by abstraction and a subtle interplay of texture and form, reflecting both personal and collective narratives shaped by Iraq’s complex past.

Al Sindi’s work has been exhibited in notable institutions and international exhibitions, including the Sharjah Art Museum and the Arab American National Museum in Michigan. He has participated in group shows such as “Told Untold Retold” at Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art in Doha, which highlighted leading voices in contemporary Arab art. His pieces have also appeared at major auction houses, with sales recorded at Christie’s Dubai, underscoring his growing recognition in the Middle Eastern and global art markets. Now based in the United States, Qais Al Sindi continues to develop a body of work that bridges his Iraqi heritage with his experiences in diaspora, contributing a distinct perspective to contemporary art discourse.
