Outi Heiskanen (1937–2022) was a prominent Finnish artist renowned for her distinctive graphic art, drawings, and performances. Born in Mikkeli, Finland, Heiskanen’s work is celebrated for its dreamlike, often surreal imagery, frequently featuring animals and human-animal hybrids. Her preferred mediums included etching, aquatint, and drypoint, through which she explored themes of mythology, folklore, and the subconscious. Heiskanen’s unique visual language and technical mastery established her as a central figure in Finnish contemporary art from the 1970s onward.

Heiskanen’s art has been widely exhibited in major Finnish institutions, including the Ateneum Art Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma in Helsinki. Internationally, her works have been shown in group exhibitions across Europe, further cementing her reputation. In addition to her visual art, Heiskanen was known for her involvement in performance art collectives, notably the group “Road Company” (Tie-teatteri), which contributed to the Finnish avant-garde scene.

Her works have appeared at reputable auction houses, including Sotheby’s and Bukowskis, where her prints and drawings have attracted collectors interested in Nordic and contemporary art. Outi Heiskanen’s legacy endures through her innovative approach to printmaking and her influential role in Finnish art history.
