Colorful Abstract Textural Expression

Otis Tamasauskas is a Canadian printmaker and artist, born in 1947 in Tirschenreuth, Germany, and later immigrated to Canada. He is widely recognized for his innovative work in printmaking, particularly in lithography, etching, and mixed-media prints. Tamasauskas’s practice is characterized by a dynamic exploration of texture, layering, and abstraction, often incorporating elements of collage and experimental techniques. His works reflect a deep engagement with both the technical and expressive possibilities of printmaking, earning him a significant place within the Canadian contemporary art scene.

Tamasauskas has exhibited extensively in major Canadian institutions, including the National Gallery of Canada and the Art Gallery of Ontario, as well as internationally in group and solo exhibitions. His prints are held in numerous public and private collections, such as the Canada Council Art Bank and the Art Gallery of Hamilton. While his works have appeared in reputable auctions, including those at Waddington’s in Toronto, there is no record of sales at major international auction houses like Christie’s or Sotheby’s. Tamasauskas has also contributed to the field as an educator, notably teaching at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario, further cementing his influence on subsequent generations of Canadian printmakers.
