Noureddin Chater

Morocco, b. 1975

Noureddine Chater, born in 1975 in Marrakech, Morocco, is a distinguished artist renowned for his innovative integration of Arabic calligraphy into abstract art. His work transforms traditional script into dynamic compositions where letters transcend their conventional meanings, becoming elements of movement and color. Employing a variety of mediums, including engraving, acrylic paint, and mixed techniques on paper and canvas, Chater's creations are characterized by dense, deep hues and the graphic beauty of Arabic letters. Chater's artistic journey began early; at 13, he received the Young Painting Prize from the city of Lidice in Czechoslovakia. After training in visual arts, he initially taught in the Anti-Atlas region before dedicating himself fully to his art. His notable series of fifty Moroccan flags, created for the fiftieth anniversary of Morocco's independence, earned him the Maroc Avenir contest and the Grand Prix national from the Caisse des Dépôts et de Gestion. His works have been exhibited in Morocco and internationally, including in France, Portugal, and Senegal. Beyond his artistic endeavors, Chater is committed to environmental and social causes. As vice president of the regional branch of the Mediterranean Center for the Environment, he organizes workshops for children and promotes ecological awareness. This engagement reflects his belief in the intersection of art, culture, and civic responsibility. ([cop22-balade.com](https://cop22-balade.com/speakers/nouredine-chater/?utm_source=openai))
