Nabil Shehadeh

Jordan, b. 1950

Nabil Shehadeh, born in Jerusalem in 1949, is a prominent Jordanian artist known for his abstract compositions that delve into the interplay between nature's enigmatic allure and the complexities of human existence. His works often convey themes of fear and frustration, utilizing layered structures interwoven with light to create a dynamic visual experience. Shehadeh's art is characterized by torn syntheses and color tensions, reflecting deep meditations and emotional depth.

Shehadeh pursued his art education at the Chelsea School of Art and Design in London, earning his diploma in 1975. He has held solo exhibitions across England, Italy, Jordan, Switzerland, the USA, and Canada. His participation in group exhibitions includes notable venues such as the Barbican Art Centre in London, the Asilah Art Festival in Morocco, and the Grand Palais in Paris. In 1989, he was awarded the Traviso Award at the Corolla d'Oro Festival in Italy. His works are part of the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts' collection, and he has exhibited at Darat al Funun in Amman.

In the art market, Shehadeh's works have been auctioned multiple times, with realized prices ranging from $526 to $690, depending on the size and medium. His record price at auction is $690 for an untitled piece sold at Germann Auctions in 2019. Currently, Shehadeh resides and works in Zurich, Switzerland, continuing to contribute to the contemporary art scene with his evocative abstract creations.
