Mounir Canaan (منير كنعان, sometimes transliterated as Mounir Kanaan or Mounir Kana’an) was a pioneering Egyptian artist born in 1919 and active until his death in 1999. Renowned for his innovative approach to abstraction, Canaan played a significant role in the development of modern art in Egypt. His work spanned painting and mixed media, often characterized by bold compositions and a dynamic interplay of color and form. Canaan was a founding member of the Contemporary Art Group (جماعة الفن المعاصر) in Cairo, which sought to bridge Egyptian heritage with modernist experimentation.

Canaan’s art has been exhibited in major institutions, including the Museum of Modern Egyptian Art in Cairo, which holds several of his works in its permanent collection.
