Mohammed Hanoon

Palestine, b. 1974

Mohammed Hanoon, born in 1974 in Kuwait, is a Palestinian-Jordanian photographer and photojournalist renowned for his evocative documentation of cultural and historical subjects. He began his photographic journey at the age of 13, developing a distinctive style that emphasizes realism and the intricate relationship between people and their environments. Hanoon pursued studies in film directing and photography at Minneapolis College of Art and Design in the United States, though he did not complete his degree.

Throughout his career, Hanoon has held numerous solo and group exhibitions across the Middle East, North America, and Europe. Notably, his work was showcased at the World Museum in Liverpool, featuring images documenting protests against the Iraq War and Israeli actions in Palestine, alongside photographs of Petra. In 2009, he presented "Jerusalem: Capital of the Arabs" at the Cairo Amman Bank Gallery, capturing the essence of the city's architecture and daily life.

Hanoon's contributions to photography have been recognized with several awards, including the Political Portrait Award from the Babylon Gallery of Art in Minneapolis in 2002 and a photography grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board in 2004. He is a founding member of the Jordanian Press Photographers Association and has been involved in training programs, such as a 2009 project with National Geographic to teach photography to children in Jordan.
