Mohammad Al Dressi

Morocco, b. 1946–2003

Mohammad Al Dressi, also known as Mohamed Drissi, was a prominent Moroccan artist born in Tetouan. He graduated from the School of Fine Arts in Tetouan and further honed his skills at the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris, the Escola de la Llotja in Barcelona, the Royal Academy in Belgium, and the School of Visual Arts in New York in 1980. Drissi's work is characterized by expressive realism, focusing on human figures that convey deep emotions and social commentary. His paintings often depict marginalized individuals, capturing their struggles through nuanced expressions and body language. He employed diverse materials, including plaster, cardboard, iron, and wood, to create his pieces. ([bayanealyaoume.press.ma](https://bayanealyaoume.press.ma/l-r-143/.html?utm_source=openai))

Throughout his career, Drissi participated in numerous exhibitions, both in Morocco and internationally. His contributions to Moroccan art were honored posthumously with exhibitions such as "Living Memory" at the Contemporary Art Gallery in Tangier in 2010. In recognition of his impact, the Contemporary Art Gallery in Tangier was renamed the Mohamed Drissi Contemporary Art Gallery.
