Mohammad Abu Sitta

Palestine, b. 1954

Mohammad Abu Sitta, born on November 10, 1956, in Khan Younis, Palestine, is a distinguished Palestinian visual artist specializing in oil painting. He earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Alexandria University, Egypt, focusing on oil painting, and later obtained a Master's degree from An-Najah National University in 1995. His artistic journey is deeply influenced by the Palestinian experience, with his works often reflecting the struggles and resilience of his people.

Abu Sitta has been an active participant in the Palestinian art scene since the mid-1980s. He has showcased his work in numerous exhibitions, including the "Spring Palestinian Exhibition" in 1985, the "Palestinian Environment Exhibition" in 1986, and the annual exhibitions of the Palestinian Artists Association. His art has also been featured in international venues, such as the Jordanian Artists Association in 1987 and the Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts in the same year. In 2005, he held a solo exhibition at An-Najah National University, presenting a comprehensive collection of his works.

Beyond his artistic endeavors, Abu Sitta has contributed significantly to art education in Palestine. He began his teaching career in UNRWA schools, where he developed programs to enhance students' artistic abilities. He later established the ceramics department at the Hebron Polytechnic College and has been a faculty member at An-Najah National University's Fine Arts Department since 1986. His dedication to both creating and teaching art underscores his commitment to nurturing the cultural and artistic heritage of Palestine.
