Mervat Shazly Helaly, born on January 19, 1969, in Aswan, Egypt, is a distinguished painter renowned for her vibrant, expressionistic depictions of Southern Egypt and its people. Her work intricately blends modern techniques with her Nubian heritage, often focusing on women's emotions and experiences. Shazly earned her Bachelor's degree in Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts in 1992, followed by a Master's in 1998, where she explored the influence of Nubian environment on Egyptian artists' works. In 2009, she completed her Doctorate, examining contemporary Egyptian painting between tradition and modernization from 1970 to 2000. Over her three-decade career, Shazly has exhibited extensively both in Egypt and internationally. Her works are part of major collections, including the Museum of Modern Egyptian Art. Notable exhibitions include "From the South" at Menem Gallery in 1998, "Light in Old Cairo" at the Cairo Atelier in 2000, and "A Woman's Pulse" at Doroub Gallery in 2010. In 2017, she received an award at the Sheikha Suad Al-Sabah Biennale in Kuwait. ([fineart.gov.eg](https://www.fineart.gov.eg/arb/cv/cv.asp?IDS=2503&utm_source=openai))

Beyond her artistic practice, Shazly has contributed significantly to Egypt's cultural scene, serving as a program leader at the Egyptian Opera House and managing the Waheed El-Din Selim Museum. Through her richly textured paintings, she continues to preserve and reimagine Egypt's cultural identity.
