Miroslav Moucha

Slovakia

Miroslav Moucha is a Czech-born artist, not Slovak, recognized for his contributions to contemporary painting and graphic arts. Born in 1942 in Prague, Moucha emigrated to France in the late 1960s, where he established his artistic career. His work is characterized by a lyrical abstraction, often exploring themes of memory, landscape, and the interplay between light and color. Moucha employs a variety of mediums, including oil on canvas, works on paper, and printmaking, demonstrating a refined sensitivity to texture and composition.

Moucha has exhibited widely in Europe, with notable institutional exhibitions at venues such as the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris and the National Gallery in Prague. His works have also been included in group and solo exhibitions across France, Germany, and the Czech Republic, reflecting his transnational influence. In the secondary market, Moucha’s paintings and works on paper have appeared at major auction houses, including Sotheby’s and Christie’s, where they have attracted interest from collectors of Central European modern and contemporary art. His artistic legacy is marked by a synthesis of Czech artistic traditions and Western European modernism, making him a significant figure in postwar European art.
