Iraq

Modhir Ahmed, an Iraqi-Swedish artist, is renowned for his innovative work in graphic arts and poster design. Born in Iraq, he pursued his passion for graphic arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland, where he was influenced by prominent artists such as Henryk Tomaszewski. Ahmed's early exposure to the teachings of Iraqi artist Rafa Nasiri at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad also played a significant role in shaping his artistic direction. Throughout his career, Ahmed has been recognized for his unique approach to printmaking, often utilizing unconventional materials like newspapers, discarded tires, and cardboard boxes to create compelling graphic prints. His work has been showcased in various exhibitions, including a retrospective in Sweden that highlighted his exploration of the hidden aspects and allure of objects. Ahmed's artistic endeavors extend beyond traditional mediums; he has produced a series of posters in solidarity with Iraqi protests against corruption and political mismanagement. These works reflect his commitment to social issues and his ability to convey powerful messages through art.
