Egypt, b. 1943

Mohamed Magdy Qannawi, born on October 12, 1943, in Alexandria, Egypt, is a distinguished printmaker and educator. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Printmaking from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Alexandria in 1964, followed by a Master's in Printmaking in 1975. Furthering his studies, he obtained a diploma from the High Institute of Graphic Arts in Urbino, Italy, in 1981. Qannawi's artistic journey is marked by numerous solo exhibitions, including shows at the Atelier Alexandria in 1970, and international venues such as Galleria La Leonessa in Brescia, Italy, in 1979, and the Egyptian Cultural Center in Paris in 1988. His works have been featured in prominent group exhibitions like the Alexandria Biennale and the Cairo International Biennale. In 1994, he received the Jury Prize at the 5th Cairo International Biennale. In April 2025, Qannawi was honored at the 6th Egypt International Print Triennale for his significant contributions to the field. His works are part of esteemed collections, including the Museum of Egyptian Modern Art in Cairo and the Museum of Fine Arts in Alexandria.
