Mahmoud Taha

Jordan, b. 1929–2017

Mahmoud Taha (1929–2017) was a prominent Jordanian artist recognized for his significant contributions to modern Arab art, particularly through his innovative approach to printmaking, painting, and graphic design. Born in Jordan, Taha was among the pioneering figures who helped shape the visual arts scene in the country. His work is distinguished by a synthesis of traditional Arab motifs and contemporary artistic techniques, often exploring themes of heritage, identity, and the interplay between abstraction and calligraphy.

Taha’s artistic career was marked by numerous solo and group exhibitions at leading institutions across the Arab world and internationally. His works have been showcased at the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, which holds several of his pieces in its permanent collection, underscoring his lasting influence on the region’s cultural landscape. In addition to his institutional recognition, Mahmoud Taha’s art has appeared at major auction houses, including Christie’s, where his pieces have attracted attention from collectors interested in modern Middle Eastern art. His legacy endures through both his artistic output and his role in mentoring younger generations of Jordanian artists.
