Mahmoud Abdel-Atti (1950–2005) was an Egyptian painter and educator known for his innovative use of light and color. Born on October 3, 1950, in Dakahlia, Egypt, he earned a Bachelor's degree in Arts and Education from the Higher Institute of Art Education in 1973, followed by a Master's in Art Education specializing in painting from Helwan University in 1981, and a Ph.D. in Art Education with a focus on painting from the same institution in 1987.

Abdel-Atti's artistic approach was distinguished by his exploration of light dynamics within his paintings. He skillfully integrated external light sources with the inherent luminosity of colors, creating a harmonious interplay that engaged viewers both visually and emotionally. His technique involved constructing geometric forms on the canvas, allowing light to interact with the surfaces and produce captivating visual effects. This method not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal of his works but also invited deeper contemplation of the relationship between form, color, and light.

Throughout his career, Abdel-Atti held various academic positions, including lecturer and assistant professor at the Faculty of Art Education, Helwan University. He also served as the general supervisor of the Information Bank at the National Center for Fine Arts from 1989 to 1991 and was the artistic supervisor for the Omani magazine "Nizwa" between 1995 and 1997. His contributions to the art community were recognized through numerous awards, such as the Second Prize for Ceramics at the Journalists' Exhibition in 1971 and the First Prize in the Egyptian Opera House competition in 1989. His works are part of several prestigious collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in Cairo, which houses 16 of his pieces, as well as collections in England, France, Germany, Greece, Jordan, and Kuwait.
