Mexico

Leticia Ocharán (1942–1997) was a Mexican artist renowned for her contributions to painting, printmaking, and mural art. Born in Villahermosa, Tabasco, she pursued her artistic education at the Escuela de Artes Plásticas de Veracruz and the Escuela de Iniciación Artística No. 1 in Mexico City. Under the mentorship of Salvador Bribiesca, Mario Reyes, and Leticia Moreno, Ocharán honed her skills in painting, printmaking, and sculpture. Throughout her career, Ocharán held over 50 solo exhibitions across Mexico, Venezuela, El Salvador, and Spain. Her work was featured in numerous international biennials, including those in Puerto Rico, Argentina, Japan, Turkey, India, and Germany. Ocharán's artistic style encompassed both abstraction and neo-figurativism, often drawing inspiration from her native Tabasco's landscapes and cultural heritage. Her works are part of esteemed collections such as the Museo de la Solidaridad Salvador Allende in Chile and the Fondo Tabasco Collection. Beyond her artistic endeavors, she was an advocate for artists' rights, serving as president of the Mexican Committee of the International Association of Plastic Arts under UNESCO from 1988 to 1994.
