About the work

A densely packed composition of fragmented human figures fills the frame in overlapping layers of grey and white, creating a dynamic, almost rhythmic visual tension. The printmaking technique lends the work a raw, graphic energy that draws the eye across its intricate surface.

Khalid Khreis

Jordan, b. 1955

Khalid Khreis (خالد خريس), born in 1955 in Jordan, is a prominent contemporary artist recognized for his contributions to painting and printmaking. Khreis’s work is characterized by a dynamic interplay of abstraction and figuration, often exploring themes rooted in Arab identity, heritage, and socio-political narratives. His expressive use of color and form reflects both personal and collective experiences, positioning him as a significant figure within the Jordanian and broader Arab art scenes.

Khreis has exhibited extensively in reputable institutions across the Middle East and internationally. Notably, his works have been shown at the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, where he has also served as director, underscoring his influence on the development of the arts in Jordan. His participation in major biennials and exhibitions, including those in Cairo and Sharjah, further cements his standing in the regional art world. While Khreis’s works are held in important public and private collections, there is no verified record of his pieces appearing at major international auction houses such as Christie’s, Sotheby’s, or Bonhams to date.

Throughout his career, Khalid Khreis has played a pivotal role in fostering artistic dialogue within Jordan and beyond, both through his creative practice and his leadership in cultural institutions. His ongoing engagement with contemporary artistic discourse continues to inspire new generations of artists in the region.
