Palestine

Khaled Hourani is a prominent Palestinian artist, curator, and writer, born in 1965 in Hebron, Palestine. He is widely recognized for his conceptual and socially engaged art practice, which spans painting, installation, and multimedia projects. Hourani’s work often addresses themes of cultural identity, politics, and the complexities of daily life under occupation, employing irony and critical reflection. He is particularly noted for his project “Picasso in Palestine” (2011), which brought a Picasso painting from the Van Abbemuseum in the Netherlands to the International Academy of Art Palestine in Ramallah, highlighting issues of access, borders, and the politics of art.

Hourani has exhibited internationally, with solo and group exhibitions at major institutions such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the New Museum in New York, and the Sharjah Biennial. His work has also been featured at the Istanbul Biennial and the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo. In addition to his artistic practice, Hourani served as the Artistic Director of the International Academy of Art Palestine and has contributed significantly to the development of contemporary art in the region. While his works have been included in international exhibitions and collections, there are no major auction records at Christie’s, Sotheby’s, or Bonhams to date. Hourani continues to live and work in Ramallah, Palestine.
