About the work

Sweeping gestures of cobalt blue cut across a luminous field of yellow and orange, punctuated by bold red forms and fluid black lines that pulse with energy and movement. The composition radiates a sense of spontaneous, uninhibited expression set against a warm, sunlit ground.

Khaled Al Roshdi

Oman

Khaled bin Ali Al Roshdi is an Omani visual artist known for his contributions to painting and art education. He has been actively involved in nurturing the artistic community in Oman, particularly in the North Al Batinah region. In 2023, Al Roshdi served as an instructor in a program organized by the General Directorate of Culture, Sports, and Youth in North Al Batinah, focusing on the fundamentals of drawing and oil painting. This initiative aimed to enhance the skills of 25 participating artists from various wilayats of the governorate.

Al Roshdi's work has been showcased internationally. In 2017, he represented Oman at the Al-Balqa Art Society's forum and exhibition in Jordan. During this event, he presented artworks that reflect Omani heritage and culture through a contemporary artistic lens, highlighting the richness and diversity of Omani traditions. The forum provided a platform for artists from various countries to exchange experiences and engage in artistic workshops.

In 2023, Al Roshdi participated in the "Muscat Nights" festival at Qurum Park, representing North Al Batinah. He emphasized the importance of artists engaging directly with the public in open spaces, fostering a deeper connection between art and the community. The festival attracted a diverse audience, including citizens, residents, and visitors, who showed great interest in the artworks on display.

Acrylic

A fast-drying, water-based paint developed in the twentieth century. Versatile and vivid, it can mimic oil or watercolor and suits bold, flat color — a favourite of many contemporary artists across the region.

Abstract Expressionism

A postwar movement built on spontaneous, gestural abstraction and broad fields of color, conveying feeling without recognizable subjects. Its freedom shaped many Arab modernists exploring abstraction in their own visual language.
