Kamal Obaid (1918–2003) was a prominent Egyptian sculptor and ceramicist whose work significantly influenced modern Egyptian art. He was deeply inspired by the structural systems of living organisms, often depicting animals and birds in his sculptures. His portfolio includes numerous portraits and statues of notable figures, such as the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser, Crown Prince of Bahrain, and the esteemed writer Dr. Taha Hussein. Obaid's artistic approach was characterized by a profound understanding of form and a meticulous attention to detail, reflecting his passion for the natural world.

Beyond his artistic endeavors, Obaid played a pivotal role in art education. He began his teaching career in 1941 and later joined the Institute of Education for Teachers in 1947, eventually becoming a professor of sculpture and ceramics at the Faculty of Art Education, Helwan University, in 1966. His influence extended internationally; in 1974, he traveled to Saudi Arabia to establish the art education department at a university, and in 1985, he was commissioned by the Arab Organization for Education, Culture, and Science to develop art education curricula in Bahrain. Upon returning to Egypt, he contributed to the establishment of faculties of specific education, serving as a professor and head of the art education and sculpture division. In 1995, he was appointed as a non-resident professor of sculpture and ceramics at the Faculty of Art Education.

Obaid's legacy is marked by his dedication to both art creation and education. His works continue to be celebrated for their artistic merit and educational value, leaving an indelible mark on the Egyptian art scene.
