Ismail Shammout (إسماعيل شموط, also transliterated as Ismail Shamout) was a seminal Palestinian artist born in 1930 in Lydda (now Lod), Palestine, and passed away in 2006. Renowned for his evocative paintings and graphic works, Shammout’s oeuvre is deeply intertwined with the Palestinian experience, particularly themes of exile, memory, and national identity. His early life was marked by the 1948 Nakba, which profoundly influenced his artistic vision.
