About the work

A ghostly winged figure clutches an object amid a dark nocturnal landscape, where a crescent moon hangs above bare trees and a large shadowy sphere dominates the foreground. The printmaking technique lends the scene a haunting, dreamlike atmosphere rendered entirely in deep greys and stark whites.

Iraq

Iman Mohammed Jawad is an Iraqi author known for her literary contributions that intertwine themes of exile, motherhood, and the longing for homeland. Born in Baghdad, she holds both bachelor's and master's degrees in translation (Arabic-English-Arabic). From a young age, she was passionate about reading, particularly romantic novels and Arabic poetry. The tumultuous events in Iraq compelled her to leave the country to ensure the safety of her children. She currently resides in the United States, where she continues to write, drawing inspiration from her experiences of displacement and the challenges of raising a family in a foreign land.

In her literary works, Iman delves into the complexities of human emotions, relationships, and the enduring impact of cultural identity. Her debut novel, "لن أكون لكِ كما تريدين" ("I Will Not Be Yours As You Want"), published by Austin Macauley in the UAE, reflects her deep understanding of personal and societal struggles. Beyond her novels, she engages with her audience through social media platforms, sharing short stories and reflections that resonate with themes of nostalgia and resilience. Iman's writings offer a poignant exploration of the immigrant experience, capturing the essence of longing and the pursuit of belonging.
