Hubertus Giebe

Germany

Hubertus Giebe is a German painter born in 1953 in Dohna, near Dresden, Germany. He is recognized for his expressive and often large-scale paintings, which frequently explore themes of history, mythology, and the human condition. Giebe’s work is characterized by a dynamic use of color and a vigorous, gestural style, reflecting influences from both German Expressionism and the traditions of figurative painting. He primarily works in oil on canvas, producing both portraits and complex narrative scenes.

Giebe has exhibited widely in Germany and internationally, with notable institutional exhibitions at the Albertinum in Dresden and the Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, which hold several of his works in their permanent collections. His paintings have also been featured in solo and group exhibitions at respected venues such as the Kunsthalle Rostock and the Museum der bildenden Künste Leipzig. In the auction market, Hubertus Giebe’s works have appeared at major houses including Sotheby’s and Christie’s, where his paintings have attracted attention from collectors of contemporary German art. Giebe continues to live and work in Dresden, contributing significantly to the postwar and contemporary art scene in Germany.
