Egypt

Mohamed Hazem Fathallah (1944–2022) was a prominent Egyptian artist renowned for his contributions to graphic arts and printmaking. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Engraving from Helwan University in 1966, followed by a Master's in Graphic Arts in 1975, and a Ph.D. in Graphic Arts from Urbino, Italy, in 1980. Fathallah's artistic journey was marked by a deep exploration of human emotions, often blending intricate color schemes with profound psychological insights.

Throughout his career, Fathallah held several significant academic positions, including serving as the Head of the Graphic Department at Helwan University from 1987 to 1998, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cairo in 1998, and Vice President of Helwan University for Community Service and Environmental Development in 2001. His works were showcased in numerous solo exhibitions, notably six in Italy between 1976 and 1980, and various venues across Egypt, such as the Faculty of Fine Arts Gallery in 1982 and the Akhenaton Gallery in 1984. Internationally, his art was featured in exhibitions in Italy, Norway, Japan, and England.

Fathallah's artistic excellence was recognized with several awards, including the State Encouragement Prize in Graphic Arts in 1986, the Medal of Excellence First Class in 1991, and the Graphic Medal at the Porto Recanati Biennale in Italy in 1978. His legacy continues to influence the Egyptian art scene, with retrospectives like the "Between the Folds of the Soul" exhibition held at the Museum of Modern Egyptian Art in January 2025, honoring his profound impact on contemporary art.
