Hassan Bourkia

Morocco, b. 1956

Hassan Bourkia (حسن بورقية), born in 1956 in Morocco, is a contemporary Moroccan artist recognized for his multidisciplinary approach, encompassing painting, installation, and mixed media. Bourkia’s work often explores themes of memory, identity, and the interplay between tradition and modernity, reflecting the complexities of Moroccan society. His visual language is marked by a nuanced use of color and texture, creating evocative compositions that invite contemplation and dialogue.

Bourkia has exhibited extensively in Morocco and internationally, with notable institutional exhibitions at venues such as the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rabat and the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris. His participation in group and solo shows has positioned him as a significant figure within the Moroccan contemporary art scene. While his works have been featured in various exhibitions, records of sales at major international auction houses such as Christie’s, Sotheby’s, or Bonhams have not been prominently documented as of the latest available data. Bourkia continues to live and work in Morocco, contributing to the evolving narrative of North African contemporary art.
