Hassan Abood

Iraq

Hassan Aboud, born on July 1, 1956, in Najaf, Iraq, is a distinguished visual artist specializing in graphic arts. He completed his diploma in graphic design from the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad in 1979. In 1980, Aboud co-founded the "Group of Four," a collective that significantly influenced the Iraqi art scene. He served as a professor at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad from 1980 to 1995, mentoring a generation of artists.

Aboud's work has been showcased in numerous international exhibitions, including the Contemporary Iraqi Art exhibition in Germany (1985), the First Baghdad International Exhibition and the Graphic Biennale in Norway (1986), and the Graphic Biennale in Italy (1990). He held solo exhibitions at Al-Riwaq Gallery in Baghdad (1980), in Amman, Jordan (1994), and at Kufa Gallery in London (2003). In 1986, he received the first prize in graphic arts at the Sixth Al-Wasiti Festival in Baghdad.

Since relocating to the Netherlands in 1996, Aboud has continued his artistic practice, participating in exhibitions such as the Sharjah International Biennale (1995, 1999) and holding solo shows at Galerie Veenstra in Drachten, Netherlands (1998), and in Damascus, Syria (2002). His works often reflect themes from Mesopotamian heritage, blending traditional motifs with contemporary techniques. Aboud remains an active member of the Iraqi Artists Association and the Dutch Artists Circle, contributing to the global art community.
