Iraq

Hashem Mohsen, born in Baghdad in 1954, is a distinguished Iraqi artist renowned for his innovative integration of traditional Kufic calligraphy with contemporary abstract painting. Over a career spanning more than four decades, he has consistently explored the fusion of ancient scripts with modern artistic expressions, employing acrylic on canvas to create dynamic compositions that resonate with both historical depth and modern sensibilities.

Mohsen has held several solo exhibitions in Baghdad, notably his "Ideas" series from 1983 to 1986, and more recently, "Colorful Tales" in 2023 at the Hewar Art Gallery, which featured 35 acrylic paintings. His participation extends to international platforms, including the first and second International Festivals of Arabic Calligraphy and Islamic Ornamentation organized by the Ministry of Culture, as well as exhibitions in Amman, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkey. His works are part of collections in France, the United Kingdom, the United States, Sweden, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, the UAE, and Bahrain.

Throughout his career, Mohsen has received numerous awards and certificates of appreciation from institutions such as the Iraqi Ministry of Culture and Information, the Iraqi Calligraphers Association, and the Iraqi Association for the Support of Arts. His contributions have significantly influenced the Iraqi art scene, particularly in the realm of calligraphy and abstract art.
