About the work

A commanding bust portrait of an elderly man with white hair, rendered with bold expressive brushstrokes and a muted palette of greys and warm flesh tones. The figure gazes quietly to the side, his dark jacket contrasting against a moody, loosely painted grey background.

Acrylic

A fast-drying, water-based paint developed in the twentieth century. Versatile and vivid, it can mimic oil or watercolor and suits bold, flat color — a favourite of many contemporary artists across the region.

Expressionism

Art that prioritizes emotion and inner experience over realistic depiction, using distortion, bold color, and energetic mark-making. In the region it gave modern artists a language for memory, displacement, and identity.
