Bronze Relief Figure Playing Instrument

Haythem Hassan, born in 1957 in Anbar Province, Iraq, is a distinguished sculptor known for his evocative bronze works that explore the human form and its expressive potential. He completed his studies at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad in 1980 and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sculpture from the Academy of Fine Arts at the University of Baghdad in 1987. Hassan's artistic journey has been marked by a deep engagement with the materiality of sculpture, particularly favoring bronze for its versatility and enduring qualities.

Throughout his career, Hassan has held numerous solo exhibitions, including "Returned Eternity" at Ain Hall in Baghdad (1993), "The Bronze Garden" at Hiwar Hall in Baghdad (1996), and "Homage to Ismail Fattah" at Dar Al-Anda in Amman (2004). His work has also been featured in international group exhibitions, such as the Baghdad-Paris-Iraqi Artist exhibition at the Montparnasse Museum in Paris (2006) and the Iraqi artist exhibition at Colorado State University in the United States (2009). His contributions to the art world have been recognized with several awards, including the first prize for sculpture at the Contemporary Iraqi Art Exhibition (1986), the Jewad Selim Gold Medal (1987), and the State Encouragement Prize for Arts in Sculpture by the Iraqi Ministry of Culture (1997).

Hassan's sculptures are characterized by a profound exploration of the human condition, often reflecting themes of identity, memory, and resilience. His works are noted for their dynamic forms and textured surfaces, which invite viewers to engage with the tactile and emotional aspects of his art. Currently, Hassan divides his time between Baghdad and Amman, continuing to create and exhibit works that contribute significantly to contemporary Iraqi art.
