Gihan Soliman

Egypt, b. 1966

Gihan Soliman, born in Kuwait in 1966, is an Egyptian painter renowned for her expressive use of color and exploration of human relationships within her compositions. She earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Alexandria University in 1988, followed by a Master's degree in 1994 focusing on "Color as an Expressive Value in Modern Painting," and a PhD in 2000 titled "Nature in Contemporary Painting." Currently, she serves as an assistant professor in the Painting Department at Alexandria University's Faculty of Fine Arts.

Soliman's work has been showcased in numerous solo and group exhibitions both in Egypt and internationally, including venues in Rome, Nairobi, Paris, Abu Dhabi, Yemen, and Riyadh. Notably, she received an honorary prize at the 5th Cairo International Biennale in 1994. Her paintings often depict human figures intertwined with elements like fish or geometric shapes, reflecting themes of human connection and introspection. In 2019, her solo exhibition "Autumn Tales" at Zamalek's Diwan Gallery in Cairo featured works that delved into these motifs, employing a vibrant color palette to evoke emotional depth.

In the art market, Soliman's pieces have garnered attention, with her painting "Orange Chair" achieving a record price of $2,125 at Chiswick Auctions in 2025. Her works are held in various public and private collections, including the Museum of Modern Egyptian Art and the National Council of Arts and Culture in Kuwait.
