Ghada Dahdaleh

Jordan, b. 1963

Ghada Dahdaleh, born in 1963 in Amman, Jordan, is a Palestinian-Jordanian artist renowned for her abstract modernist works. She graduated from the Central Technical College of Art in Toronto, Canada, in 1984. Dahdaleh's art is characterized by the use of various media, including oil-based inks, graphite, charcoal, and special chalks. Her compositions often feature vertical and horizontal lines that divide the canvas into distinct sections, culminating in square or rectangular frames. She draws inspiration from Eastern symbols and patterns found in embroidery, rugs, and other Arab arts, aiming to break traditional architectural frames to achieve free, abstract borders. Between 1984 and 2002, Dahdaleh held eight solo exhibitions in Canada and Jordan and participated in numerous group exhibitions across Canada, Jordan, Europe, and the Far East. She was awarded the Sesquicentennial Award of the 150th Anniversary of the Development of Architectural Design in Toronto in 1983, the Mr. & Mrs. Griffney Award for Painting at the Ontario Gallery of Art in 1984, and a Poster Festival Award in Canada the same year. Her works have been featured in prominent venues such as the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts and Darat al Funun. Dahdaleh's pieces have also garnered attention in the art market. For instance, her 2010 mixed media work on handmade paper was auctioned at Christie's.
