Entangled Lines and Pastel Circles, 2017

Farouq Lambaz (1942–2021) was a distinguished Jordanian artist renowned for his innovative integration of Arabic calligraphy and Islamic art into contemporary painting. Born in Amman, he earned a law degree from the University of Damascus but pursued a career in art and design. Lambaz's work is characterized by a unique Arabesque style, blending traditional motifs with modern techniques to celebrate Islamic and Arabic heritage. His meticulous craftsmanship involved creating embossed layers of calligraphic forms, imparting depth and movement to his compositions.

Throughout his career, Lambaz held numerous solo exhibitions, including shows at the French Cultural Center in Amman (1968), Alia Art Gallery (1976, 1982, 1984), and the Jordanian Embassy in Washington D.C. (1986). He also participated in international exhibitions, such as the Jordanian Art Exhibition in Beijing (1984) and "A Meeting Point" in Gothenburg, Sweden (1998). His works have been acquired by collectors in the United States, England, and Sweden. In recognition of his contributions to art, Lambaz was awarded the Jordanian Kawkab Medal of the Fourth Order by the late King Hussein.

In addition to his artistic endeavors, Lambaz served as the director of the Promotion and Design Section at Royal Jordanian Airlines and managed the Alia Art Gallery from 1982 to 1996. His legacy endures through his distinctive approach to calligraphy and his dedication to preserving and innovating within the realm of Islamic art.
