Dana Al Rousan

Jordan, b. 1969

Dana Rousan, born in Amman, Jordan in 1969, is a multidisciplinary artist whose work spans visual arts and contemporary jewelry design. She earned her Certificat d'Études Supérieures d'Arts Plastiques from L'École des Beaux-Arts de Besançon, France, in 1996. After her studies, Rousan pursued a successful career in graphic design, advertising, and television in Jordan, receiving awards in these fields. In 2014, she transitioned into creating mixed-media artworks inspired by her Middle Eastern heritage, characterized by a sophisticated and minimalistic approach with vibrant colors and contrasts. Her artistic practice includes gouache on canvas, as well as two-dimensional and three-dimensional works, often utilizing engraved wood to accentuate sophistication.

Rousan's work has been featured in several notable exhibitions. She participated in group shows at Zara Gallery, Darat Al Funun, MMAG Foundation, and The Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts in Amman. In 2018, she was selected as the only Middle Eastern designer to showcase her jewelry at Paris Design Week, where she presented pieces that blend her Levantine heritage with minimalism. Additionally, her work was included in The Young Collectors Auction at Ayyam Gallery in Dubai.

In her jewelry designs, Rousan instinctively merges her Jordanian heritage with the artistic education she received in France, creating contemporary pieces that reflect a fusion of cultural influences. Her creations often feature 18-karat gold combined with sterling silver, embodying a modern aesthetic rooted in traditional motifs. Through her diverse body of work, Dana Rousan continues to contribute significantly to the contemporary art and design scenes in Jordan and beyond.
